This website is all about the fashion, and although it cant be denied that there was a definate link between Casuals and various football firms around the country, this is about the clothes and not the fighting!
Rare green BJ as sold on ebay!
On the Terrace in the eighties, or even in the stands today, was one of the best places to wear your best casual outfits at football. To start with there is no dress code, unlike nightclubs, where you were made to wear a collared shirt & trousers and definately not trainers and tracksuit tops. No you wear what you like at football, plus youv'e got an audience of thousands to show off your clobber to! Where i used to go, there was a section of the ground where all the Casuals would go, (yeah ok, a lot of it would be the Casual Firm), but not everyone. So this was definately the place to wear your best Fila BJ, maybe with a lacaste rollneck, or diamond Pringle v-neck underneath and a pair of Lois cords, or maybe Fiorucci Jeans. Most of the Jeans and Cords would be cut at the bottom , either one slit on either side, or just one side, or the would be frayed at the bottom. Maybe footwear would be Diadora Gold Elite, or Adidas Forest Hills (both white and gold), if you were lucky, but the poorer of us would stick to the Nike Wimbledon, with the light blue tick, maybe a red tick.
Of course, like my Homepage shows, there were plenty of alternatives, its no good just having the one outfit. Burberry jackets were always good, or Aquascutum, as was a pinstripe Lacoste jacket, normally white with green pinstripes was a favourite I seem to remember. The Benetton rugby shirt, (white and blue) , with a pair of navy Tacchini tracksuit bottoms and a pair of blue Kickers would also have been an acceptable showing.
Of course come winter time, you could top it all of with an Ellesse ski coat or a Fila Snowtime puffa, the more zip fobs and badges you could have showing together the higher the street cred!
Just thought i'd add a few more pictures of Fila BJ Settanta mark 1's, these 3 are from my current collection and cos im not a big lump i can still fit in a UK38, so i dont have to sell them for a larger, more harder to get, size!
